About Us

The objective of the Friends of Blackfoot Society is to Promote, Protect, and Interpret natural, cultural, heritage, and recreation values of the Provincial Recreation Area (PRA)

Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area (PRA), covering 97 square km, situated atop the Beaverhills moraine, is a mosaic of forests, fields and wetlands. It provides a wide range of habitats that support diverse wildlife and plant communities. Highly visible species include coyote, deer, elk, and moose and seasonal occurrence of resident and migratory birds. The area provides excellent year-round variety in wildlife viewing and recreation opportunities along its more than 170 km of trails.

The Society does not manage nor maintain the PRA. Information provided on this website includes materials from AB Parks or other authorities, supplemented by materials generated by the Friends. Every effort is made to ensure accuracy of information but recognizes that errors of interpretation or current status may occur.

The AB Parks website, posted notices by AB Parks and the direction of Parks staff are the definitive authority.
